Adam Pearson was born with neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow along his nerves.   However, it is precisely such a man who looks extremely ugly that can now appear on the movie screen alongside Hollywood superstars.  Do you know which superstar he has collaborated with?



1.Adam has a twin brother named Neil.
Adam Pearson and his identical twin Neil were born on January 6, 1985.
When Adam was five years old, he accidentally bumped his head. The lump that appeared after the injury didn't heal;  instead, it remained on his head.  He was later diagnosed with a rare congenital disease, Neurofibromatosis type 1, which causes benign tumors to grow on nerve tissue and currently has no cure.


In Adam's case, the tumors grew on his face, permanently altering his appearance.  

His twin brother Neil was also diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, but it manifested differently in him.   His appearance remained unchanged, though Adam says Neil has a "poor short-term memory."
But wait, there's more to his challenging journey.


2.Faced rejection and bullying at school.

The disease developed during the peak of Adam's childhood.  
Because of this, the boy was often teased at school, given various nicknames, and subjected severe humiliation.   Adam felt like a true outsider, but people around him didn't know what to do about it.   Pearson once shared one of the most painful incidents from his school days.   One of the children said a teacher wanted to see him in the classroom.  
However, when Adam arrived there, waiting for him wasn't a teacher, but a group of other kids.  

"I went home with spit all over my blazer," he explained.   "It was horrible."


3.Made his screen debut in 2013.

After school, Adam graduated from the University of Brighton and worked in television production for the BBC and Channel 4. 
Then, in 2011, his life took a sharp turn.   He received a call from the charity Changing Faces, saying producers were looking for someone to play a role in their film Under the Skin.   Adam responded to the offer and starred alongside Scarlett Johansson.


This was the long-awaited opportunity he needed to show the world that anyone can achieve their dreams, regardless of their appearance.

This role wasn't his only one.   In 2015, he appeared in two short films, Rodent and Freak, with the latter winning the Cheltenham Film Society's Best Picture award.   In 2019, he played Rosenthal in the TV series Chained for Life, starring alongside Jess Weixler.


4.He actively participates in different programs as a host.

Adam sees his acting career as a chance to finally step out of the shadows.
He has presented several documentaries on the BBC about himself and his condition, and starred in an episode of the documentary series Horizon. This episode, titled "My Amazing Twin," tells the story of Adam and his brother Neil.
In 2016, Pearson was nominated for the Grierson Award for Best British Documentary Presenter.

Adam is a highly respected disability advocate. He is known for his courage and dedication in both work and daily life. He wants to show others that they can overcome difficulties and should never stop themselves from dreaming.
When he speaks, he often talks about disability and why it's important to include everyone.

Adam's social life is truly fulfilling and fun. He has supportive good friends, and Adam supports them in return.
The story of Adam Pearson is far more than just an inspiring template for "overcoming adversity". From a teenager who was excluded and bullied due to a rare disease, he has grown into a versatile advocate active on the screen, on the radio and on the podium, demonstrating to us what it means to "respond with one's own existence".
