India is truly anxious, claiming it wants to compete with countries like China, and workers must work a full 70 hours! This has really stirred up a thousand waves! Indian workers have spoken up: Why? Is India trying to force growth?

The laziness of Indians is well-known; people are unwilling to work overtime and prefer to dawdle. Previously, the production of Apple phones was a disaster for Cook, with a pass rate of only 34%! Not long ago, Indian workers even went on a collective strike for India's amendment of labor laws, claiming it violated their legal rights and would have a negative impact on their work environment and health.

Speaking of which, the Indian workers' strike hasn't been over for long, and now Murthy, the founder of Infosys in India and the father-in-law of Sunak, has once again stirred up a thousand waves. He claims that India is one of the countries with the lowest work efficiency in the world, and young people should be patriotic, working a full 70 hours a week, so that we can compete with countries like China, and we will have a chance to become the world's second-largest economy by 2075. In response, Indian workers are not happy, expressing their protests, saying that this is equivalent to working 6 days a week, nearly 12 hours a day on average, which is too crazy!

The first half of Murthy's statement is correct, but the second half is a bit demanding. The reason why Indians are unwilling to work overtime and have low work efficiency has nothing to do with patriotism, nor does it have anything to do with whether you enforce it or not, but it is related to the current national conditions of India.

Firstly, the overall quality of Indians is low, which makes their work attitude not so positive, and they do not have such high ideological awareness.

According to data, in 2011, among the population aged 25-64, nearly half of the people had not completed junior high school education, and 71% of adults had not completed high school education. Although a high level of education does not necessarily mean patriotism, but with such an educational level, how can you expect them to have high sentiments? Of course, the main reason for the low level of education is poverty; everyone does not have money to study, so they can only start earning money early to support their families.

Secondly, the welfare treatment of Indian workers also cannot keep up.The current wealth disparity among Indians is vast, with the rich being extremely wealthy and the poor being desperately poor. At present, the minimum wage for Indian workers is only 350 RMB, and the hourly rate for overtime is a mere 3 RMB. Who would be willing to work overtime under such conditions? The previous strikes by Indian workers were demands for an increase in the minimum wage and pensions, as well as the strengthening of social security and unemployment assistance.

However, another issue arises: India has a population of 1.4 billion, but its GDP for a year is only a little over 3 trillion USD. What does the country have to improve the various benefits for workers? In other words, even if the benefits for employees are forcibly increased, where will the advantage of "Made in India" come from? It's like wanting the horse to run without eating grass!

Therefore, what India needs to do now is not to compete with China, but to strengthen its internal capabilities, first by improving the quality of its population and eliminating the vast wealth gap. Then, it should enhance the institutional management of employers. Only at this point can the benefits for workers be improved, encouraging them to work overtime voluntarily, as voluntary overtime is always more effective than forced overtime.
